Yanked off Maximus from behind, she hit the marble floor, her elbows and knees protesting the violence. The pain unimportant as she tried to serenade them, but not even a small warble emerged as she tried to push her magic out of her over-stimulated brain.

She blinked up into the smiling face of a male she’d never seen before. “Got you, bitch.”

He sprayed something into her face. Sameya cried out and swatted at her stinging eyes. She reacted with a serenade that worked this time. But instead of the song controlling them, it echoed in her head. Pain shot through her limbs, overriding all enjoyment. Grasping her temples Sameya curled into a fetal position.

Moments later velvety blackness overrode all of her senses.
